Dr. Kumud Kumar Dhital is an internationally acclaimed Cardiothoracic Surgeon with over 25 years of experience and leadership in advanced Heart and Lung Surgery, including pioneering work in transplantation. He is currently based at Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, Chennai and, with his team, provides thoracic transplant services to the wider Apollo network nationally.

 

Dr. Dhital, of Nepali origin and educated in the United Kingdom, is a science graduate (B. Sc) with a research degree (PhD) from the University of London, and obtained his medical degree (BMBCh) from the University of Oxford. His medical postgraduate qualifications include the FRCS in General and FRCS-CTh in Specialist Cardiothoracic Surgical (FRCS-CTh) training in the UK, and the FRACS from Australia. He has played a pivotal role in innovating transplant techniques and is globally recognized as the surgical pioneer of the first series of DCD Heart Transplants with his team at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, Australia.

 

Known for his academic contributions and extensive research, Dr. Dhital has published widely in top-tier medical journals and continues to influence the evolving disciplines of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Transplant Surgery through practice and mentorship.
