Prof. (Dr.) D. Mukherjee completed his MBBS and MD (Medicine) from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and went on to do his DM in Nephrology from PGIMER, Chandigarh. Over the past three decades, he has led nephrology and renal transplant services at leading centres including Army Hospital (Research & Referral), Delhi, AFMC Pune, Batra Hospital, Delhi, and Max Hospital, Gurugram.
He is recognised for his expertise in renal transplantation — including cadaveric and ABO-incompatible transplants — and interventional nephrology, and is credited with initiating these programmes within the Armed Forces. Alongside his clinical work, he has been deeply committed to teaching, serving as examiner and mentor for MBBS, MD, DNB, and DM students in medicine and nephrology.
Prof. Mukherjee’s contributions have been acknowledged through several honours, including the Mannakal Medal in Medicine, fellowships from leading nephrology and transplant societies in India and abroad, and national recognitions such as the Meritt Awards (2020), Economic Times Award (2022), Sushruta Award (2023), and the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Award (2025). With extensive experience across haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, vascular access, and renal transplantation, he continues to combine clinical excellence with academic leadership.
